Let’s Talk with Terry Odell

Do Your Reading Habits Change with the Holidays?

By Terry Odell

I’m old enough to remember when Christmas promotions didn’t hit the stores until after Thanksgiving. Now, they don’t even wait for Halloween, it seems. It’s a busy time for most of us. (Although I always had my own head start on the holidays simply because my girls were born in late October, my son and husband in the middle of November, so while I was shopping for birthday presents, I’d get their holiday gifts as well.)

But with all the planning, and the pressure from the stores, and the Black Friday sales, and the parties, and … well, you get the point. We’re even busier than usual this time of year. However, one thing I’ve always done is read. I know there are some who say, “I don’t have time to read,” which puzzles me to no end. I read in bed every night no matter what, so for me, my reading schedule stays the same. And, for me, reading is a way to relieve stress, so not reading just because it’s a busy, stressful time of year doesn’t compute.

What about you? Because this website is geared toward readers, I’m going out on a limb here and saying you’re all readers! Do you read differently during this season? Do you read different kinds of books? Do you gravitate toward holiday stories, or uplifting stories. Or does your reading slow down? Do you give books as gifts? (Yes, that’s a hint! There are six authors here whose books would make wonderful holiday presents!)

My gift to you is a collection of free short stories. They’re romances, so they have that “uplifting” quality, and they’re short, so you can read them as you find time.
