What New Year’s resolutions have you made in the past that you’ve actually kept?
  • Terry Ambrose:

Jade Cavendish of the Beachtown Detective Agency says, “I know a lot of people like making resolutions, but I’m not one of them. I tried a few times in the past, but always found myself slipping back into the same old patterns. So I guess you could say the one resolution that I’ve made that I’ve kept is to not make New Year’s resolutions!”

  • Nancy J. Cohen:

Marla of the Bad Hair Day Mystery series says: I always resolve to pay more attention to my mother. Even though she’s remarried, I still need to think of her more often and make sure I call several times a week to check in. It’s hard when I’m so busy with work and my own family, but that’s no excuse. There’s always a way to make time to show people you care.

  • Debra H. Goldstein:

Sarah Blair of the Sarah Blair Mystery series says, to avoid the kitchen as much as possible.

  • Cheryl Hollon:

Miranda Trent here. I own the Paint & Shine cultural adventure touring business in Eastern Kentucky. I make only one New Year’s resolution each year. That way, my attention isn’t distracted by a list—I only have to remember one thing. My best success has been in establishing and maintaining a morning routine. It’s very important now that I have a darling puppy. This upcoming year, I will work on improving my nighttime routine.

  • Diane A.S. Stuckart:

Ophelia of the Tarot Cat Mysteries says, we felines are perfect just the way we are so we don’t need no stinkin’ resolutions (and humans should learn this about themselves, too).

  • Maggie Toussaint:

Tabby Winslow of the A Magic Candle Shop Mysteries (which Maggie writes as Valona Jones) has this to say about resolutions, “Bah Humbug.” It’s not that she’s against resolutions, it’s just that New Years is no big deal to Tabby. It’s just another day of the week. Her life is all about family and the candle shop, and she loves the routine and assurance of those benchmarks in her life.

  • Lois Winston

Anastasia Pollack, reluctant amateur sleuth of the Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mysteries: “If I made any resolutions, they’d involve trying to overcome my lack of willpower toward caffeine and chocolate or resolving to start exercising. Since I know I’d break them in less than a day, it’s easier to refuse to make any resolutions. Who needs the guilt of failing?”

Looks like our sleuths are split on this one—resolutions, no resolutions—what to do? How do you feel about New Year's resolutions? Do you have one that you kept? We'd love to know!

  1. I tried to keep them, but it was too much stress. And the same with a word for the year. So instead what i do now is make a few goals/word for the month and I find I can keep those much easier

  2. I have never made any resolutions, and I love this quote from Diane A.S. Stuckart’s Ophelia of the Tarot Cat Mysteries: “we felines are perfect just the way we are so we don’t need no stinkin’ resolutions”!
However, I do set myself some small achievable goals like read a bit more books and read a bit faster!
