What if YOU could design a balloon for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?
We asked some of our favorite characters to dream up their perfect parade balloons—think whimsical jesters, heartfelt peace symbols, and even a puppy-inspired masterpiece!
If you were tasked with designing a Thanksgiving Day parade balloon for Macy’s, what would it be?
Jade Cavendish from the Beachtown Detective Agency says—after my latest case, I’d really like to see some harmony in the world. I’d design a Peace Quilt Balloon that was a vibrant patchwork of colors and patterns, designed to resemble a giant quilt floating through the sky. Each section would feature symbols, flags, and cultural designs from around the world, woven together to represent unity and global harmony.
Sarah Blair says, Sadly, I’d probably puncture a hole in the balloon I designed or make it so off balance that it couldn’t fly. But, I think if I really designed it, it would be two children of different races holding hands so signifying the need for tolerance, respect, and innocence – and that people have to be taught to hate.
Miranda Trent here. What an interesting question! I would want to design a float that would lift everyone’s spirit when it came down the street. It would be a whimsical, larger-than-life jester character. The jester’s costume would be a riot of bright, festive colors—think vibrant purples, sunny yellows, and cheerful oranges. The character’s face would be expressive, with a big, friendly smile and eyes twinkling with mischief and mirth.
Nina Fleet of the Georgia B&B Mysteries says, I love those big balloons. If I could design one, I’d make it a blue merle Australian shepherd like my favorite pup, Mattie. To me, dogs symbolize love and loyalty and friendship, qualities everyone can agree with.
Tabby Winslow, amateur sleuth of A Magic Candle Shop Mysteries, says: I’d create scaled replicas of some of my favorite areas in Savannah, whether it might be a working fountain with lush plants as is seen in many of our historic squares. I’d also super-size some of my candles and books to highlight products we have in our shop. Or I might do a beach scene from Tybee Island, my favorite beach.
Anastasia Pollack says, What an interesting question! Given what’s going on in the world, how about an enormous Peace sign?
Now that you’ve seen our ideas, we’d love to hear yours! What kind of balloon would you create to inspire joy, harmony, or togetherness in the Macy’s Parade?
I would design a giant gingerbread man balloon. They are just so warm and sweet.
