Authors on the Bench

It’s June, which means summertime is here. This time, we asked our authors to tell us what each liked most about summer.
- Terry Ambrose:
To be honest, June is not one of my favorite months. Here in SoCal, that typically means June Gloom. It’s a name that’s well-deserved because our mornings are usually cloudy and cool. However, by the time we get to afternoon, the sun starts to peek out (hopefully), and the days become glorious. My mother used to get quite irritated at those days when the sun wouldn’t appear until about 4PM. She’d ask why we couldn’t just save up all those days where we only got a couple of hours of sun and have them all in one day. I agree, Mom.
- Nancy J. Cohen:
I like the scent of rain in the air and the sight of impending thunderstorms on the horizon, as long as I can be home before they hit. Summers here are hot and humid, and it’s easy to run outside in short sleeves and sandals. I can do without the mosquitoes, though. In my younger days, I’d go to the beach or sit by the pool, but now I appreciate air-conditioning.
- Debra H. Goldstein:
Warm weather, late sunsets – especially if observed during a walk on the beach.
- Cheryl Hollon:
I adore the long, lingering days when the evening light refuses to hurry along. It leaves just enough time for a beach stroll, and perhaps a spectacular sunset.
- Maggie Toussaint:
It is fabulous reading time. The heat makes the coastal Georgia into a sweltering place, perfect for hunkering down with a good book inside. I believe the next Murder Bot story is coming out this summer. I can hardly wait!
- C.B. Wilson:
My favorite part of summer is the long days and warm nights by the water. As a child, I loved watching the sunrise on Fire Island, New York. As an adult, there’s nothing better than a Pacific sunset. One day I’m going to catch the elusive green flash—I’m convinced of it.
- Lois Winston:
Truthfully, I’m not a big fan of summer. Too hot and too many bugs. My favorite summer days are when a cold front blows in, and the highs stay in the low to mid-70s. I much prefer the more temperate seasons of spring and autumn.
That's it for our authors. As you can see, we run the gamut on summer. What about you? Are you a fan, or would you rather just skip the season and get to fall?
