Trick or treat is just around the corner!
October means that Trick or Treat time is almost here. What is your protagonist’s go-to Halloween costume, and what is their favorite Halloween candy?
- Terry Ambrose:
Don’t tell anyone, but I’ve heard Jade Cavendish from the Beachtown Detective Agency has a new favorite Halloween costume this year. She’s dressing up as Cat Woman. I thought I knew a lot about Jade, and I have to say I’m surprised by her choice. She’s not normally a ‘slinky’ kind of girl. She’s not even 100% comfortable in yoga pants, so I was shocked to learn about her choice. On the flip side, Halloween is the time to be what you’re not, so what the heck, right? As for candy, Jade’s always a fan of Dark Chocolate M&Ms.
- Nancy J. Cohen:
Marla would choose a strong female character. Instead of Cleopatra who’s a popular choice, she would dress as Queen Esther, wife of the Persian king, Ahasuerus. Esther risked her life to save her people from the evil grand vizier, Haman. Regarding Halloween candy, Marla likes chocolate treats.
- Debra H. Goldstein:
I always found humor in wearing a striped prisoner’s outfit with a ball and chain attached and I think Sarah Blair would have the same quirky humor – she’d either come as a prisoner (because the outfit is always available and cheap in the costume department) or as a chef to mock her culinary skills.
- Cheryl Hollon:
Miranda Trent hands out homemade caramel popcorn balls wrapped in waxed paper. She would absolutely dress up as the Wicked Witch of the East from the Wizard of Oz. Of course, she would still be wearing the ruby slippers because they are definitely shoes to die for!
- Diane A.S. Stuckart:
Nina Fleet likes to dress up as a sexy witch (yes, she knows it’s not a particularly politically correct costume). And her favorite trick or treat candies that she’ll fight the kids for are Bit o’ Honey and those dark chocolate mini Hershey bars.
- Maggie Toussaint:
My protagonist has sadly not experienced Trick or Treat in her new series, only in her backstory. Tabby Winslow has long dressed up as her black cat, Harley for this holiday. Her new squeeze is dying to see her kitty cat costume! Fav treat? KitKat bars!
- Lois Winston
As a kid Anastasia was the target of a raw eggs attack while trick-or-treating. She’s since discovered a dead body in her neighborhood days before Halloween, making Halloween a holiday she prefers to skip. She would never dress up for it. However, when it comes to candy, it’s chocolate all the way.
There you have it! The skinny on all our characters and their Halloween, er, baggage. What's your favorite Halloween costume? Candy?

What fun costumes! And it sounds like a round of chocolate is in order!
We (and our characters) are never too old to dress up!
