Celebrating Happiness Happens Day
August 8th is Happiness Happens Day, a day dedicated to spreading happiness. This day reminds us to cherish the moments that bring us joy and appreciate the positive impact of happiness on our lives.
Happiness Happens Day was founded by the Secret Society of Happy People (SOHP), an organization established in 1998 by Pamela Gail Johnson. The SOHP aims to celebrate the expression of happiness and encourage individuals to embrace and share their happiness with others. Johnson, a passionate advocate for positivity, created the day to highlight the importance of noticing and valuing the happy moments in everyday life.
Why August 8th? The choice is not arbitrary. According to Pamela Gail Johnson, August is a month without any major holidays, making it an ideal time to focus on creating a special day dedicated to happiness. The date 8/8 was specifically chosen because the number 8 resembles the shape of two happy faces side by side.
Let us take this opportunity to appreciate the moments of joy that enrich our lives and spread happiness wherever we go. Whether through acts of kindness, expressions of gratitude, or simply by sharing a smile, each of us has the power to make a difference in creating a happier world.
For me, Happiness Happens when I start a new cozy mystery—either reading a favorite author or beginning to write a new book.
What is happiness for you?
The Paint & Shine Mysteries are set in the Daniel Boone National Forest. My parents were born and raised in the area, and now they rest in peace in the JJ Adams Family Cemetery in Wolfe County, Kentucky. The characters spend considerable time preparing traditional southern meals and creating moonshine cocktails. Please consider buying locally. Independent bookstores need your help. SERIES LINK

This is very sweet! I love the thought of having a “Happiness Happens Day” and being reminded to look for happiness and gratitude 😊❤️
Thank you for commenting. I’m a BIG fan of Happy!
These days, any reason to celebrate the positive side of life is welcome. Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks, Gay. I need reminders to celebrate as well.
This should be a national holiday! We all need more happiness and positivity in our lives.
Hi Lois! I agree completely. Thanks for stopping by.
Happiness and fun … two wonderful concepts that I try to hold on to as much as possible.
Hi Debra, It’s not always easy, but worth it every time.
I’ll never look at the number 8 in the same way again! 🙂
*Giggles* I feel the same way. HUGz
We need happiness and to celebrate it. Thanks for such a fun and thoughtful post.
Thanks so much, Anne. I appreciate your stopping by.
I love things that make me happy. Luckily, I am easily pleased. Books, music, yoga, family, friends,…
Hi Maggie. I’ve also found that being easily pleased leads to more enjoyment in life. HUGz.
Cheryl, thanks for the reminder. The numeral 8 also looks like an infinity sign standing on end. Happy forever??? That’s a nice thought. 🙂
Hi Diane, I find a gentle reminder to be helpful occasionally. HUGz.
So many things make me happy: husband (most of the time), family, friends, dogs, sunshine, starry nights, music, nature, birds, great food, books, dancing, etc. Thanks for the reminder:
Thanks for the delightful post — laughed out loud as my husband also makes me happy (most of the time).
Happiness is being with family, reading a good book, watching a Hallmark movie, and visiting Disney World.
having a day for sharing happiness. I love to share happiness and getting people to smile and lighten up for a while. one reason I became a server many years ago. until I was a stay at home mom and then when the kiddos went to college, I went back to serving. hard work yes, but so very rewarding to me. I love to smile and laugh and do things that make me smile and laugh. my mom used to call me a glass that was half full. but I have come to the conclusion that there are people with glasses that are half full and others with half empty, but all glasses are refillable. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net

And today, the 13th, is Lefthanded day.

I always count my blessings,, and I believe simple pleasures bring great happiness, and my simple pleasures are : a cup of coffee, a snuggle with my furry babies, a hug from my students, to name a few.
Nothing is better than a HAPPY DAY!!!!
Happiness can make a huge difference in someone’s life. Make someone happy today—it’s so easy.
