Winds of Change

March 12, 2026

Today is National Plant a Flower Day. While I won’t be planting any flowers, I’m watching over my freeze-damaged trees to see if they’ll spring back to life in warmer weather.

We had a lot of damage a few years back, and replacing those shrubs was costly. However, it paid off this year when the new landscaping in front had better freeze resistance and survived. They’re a bit scragglier right now than in this photo, but hopefully new growth in the spring will help them fill out.

Spring also brings the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival. This is one of my favorite events, with amazing topiary and tempting foods to try at the international food studios. Getting away for a day gives my brain a rest in a pleasant setting.

March also begins the season of renewal, which for me this year means learning something new for my writing business. This may be switching to a different newsletter system, creating better reader magnets, or attempting to format my own books. I may not be up for all of them, but change is in the wind for at least one of these ventures.

  1. Nancy, I realized a long time ago that I was born without any green thumbs. I can kill a plant with a mean stare!

Meanwhile, March has been a real rollercoaster of a month so far. We had the AC on yesterday because it was so hot and humid. I woke up to temps in the low 30s this morning! Next week they’re predicted to be in the 20s. March is a crazy month!

  2. I love spring! It’s warm enough here in northern CA to start planting. We just put two new fruit trees (a dwarf pear and a dwarf nectarine) in the back yard. This weekend we are putting in some marigolds in the back and another crape myrtle tree in the front. It is definitely planting season here!
