Out like a lamb

With both January and February coming in like a lion, I wasn’t sure what March would bring. Most years, the whole direness of winter weather in the coastal south is usually temps in the fifties and a strong wind.
Not so for 2026.
It’s true for the entire country that 2026 came in like a lion. Record low temps and snowfalls happened not only in the usual places, but, well, everywhere, or so it seemed. We stocked up food, we hunkered down.
But now, by gosh and golly, its nearly the end of March. And while I wonder silently, “how the heck did that happen?” I don’t have the foggiest idea of what’s ahead weather-wise for the year.
Experience has shown that harsh winters are often followed by harsh summers. While I am not looking forward to that either, I am very grateful for the person that invented air conditioning.
[Sidebar: While some form of cooling has been around for centuries, it wasn’t until electricity came along that the earliest the air conditioner was invented. The Father of Air Conditioning is Willis Carrier, who made the first A/C in 1902 and patented it in 1906.]
Speaking of needing air conditioning, my next book will also be set in the heat of the deep South, St. Simons Island, GA, to be exact. Amateur sleuth, Bob Calloway, knows a lot about heat and hot water, but he’s trying to put all that behind him and start fresh. Only, trouble follows him south from Savannah. It isn’t long before Bob is neck deep in trouble and accused of murder. This time he’s keeping his cool and detecting his way out of the hot seat.
I, and likely many others, am thrilled that the March equinox happened on the 21, which officially means we are in the season of spring. So goodbye winter, and hello spring. Even my new character Bob Calloway says, “see ya later” to the cold. As for me, I’m bleating like a lamb. “Baa-a-a!”

Summer is my favorite season. I love the hot days.
Summer is a fine season. I’m glad you like the hot temps! I have to go out in the summer either early or late in the day.
Maggie, for me it’s a toss up between spring and fall. I’m more a Goldilocks when it comes to temperatures. I neither like too hot nor too cold.
I’m a bit of a Goldilocks on temps as well!
I love Spring so I can plant a garden. I usually plant herbs, flowers and vegetables. I have a new challenge since I now live in the desert. I have planted some herbs and tomato plants in pots on the patio and here it is in the 90’s already and the plants are struggling. So not sure about planting in ground with desert dirt as a factor and no shade. I will figure it out. Thank you for the chance. Deborah
I’ve got gardening fever too! For me it is all about geraniums, especially the red ones. They tolerate the deep South temps and keep blooming from spring through fall.
Spring has always been my favorite. There’s a fresh quality to the air and everything seems new.
That’s such a nice thought, Irene. The freshness of everything fosters such a sense of renewal.
I’ll take Spring (except that we seem to segue from Winter to Summer with very few Spring days).

My favorite season is autumn. Social activities begin anew after a hot summer. Most of our family birthdays are in the fall. And soon we can look forward to cooler weather in Central Florida. Pumpkin spice is in, along with stores decorated for the upcoming fall holidays. Oct/Nov and May/June are my favorite times of the year.
And now I’m thinking of pumpkin pie! I love the fall spices and scents, too, Nancy. I used to be summer all the time as my fav. Then spring was my fav. Now I prefer autumn as well.
It sounds like it’s HOT in Savannah. My favorite season is spring because winter has just ended, and it won’t be around for another 9 months.

My favorite season is spring. I can finally get back into my garden.
I love getting my hands dirty in spring. I have two potted plant flower gardens that are a delight to work in. I would grow veggies but the deer heart eat them before I get them harvested.
My favorite is spring!! The temps are warm but not hot! The air smells so fresh!! The trees are budding, the grass is getting green, the birds are singing, the squirrels are getting frisky, new life is everywhere!!

Spring is my favorite season. I enjoy the warmer weather and the beautiful fragrant flowers.

We’re very fortunate to have fairly mild weather here in the Los Angeles area, so I have very few complaints about extreme temperatures. I hope April is a kinder month to you than the teenaged March was. I like that comparison! 🙂

Summer is too hot in Northern CA, so I love the Fall weather!
Hi Linda, I really like that the fall days cool down at night. The slide of temps each day softens the approach of winter, for the most part.
I like spring. I love seeing the flowers growing in the warmer weather.
I love seeing the warm-weather flowers too, Leela! For showy natural vegetation, nothing beats our camellias and azaleas. Among potted flowers, I enjoy geraniums, especially the red ones. They always make me smile!

Hi Diana, warm weather is indeed nice. Once we get 70-82 degree weather here you’d have to tie me up to keep me from going outside. I don’t start complaining about the heat until it hits 90 or above, because that air is hard for me to breath. But, I must say, warm summer thunderstorms are amazing displays.
Over here in Colorado. we can get all 4 seasons in one day, but my favorite is fall when the aspens show off their colors.
I’m definitely a summer person but I LOVE Spring and Fall when I can turn off the AC/Heater and open the windows.
Fall is my favorite season. Lots of fun activities and the start of holiday fun as well as baking season. Also, my birthday is in October.
