Valentine’s Day
My favorite holiday after Christmas is Valentine’s Day. My husband is terrible at remembering our other special days like birthdays or anniversaries, but he never misses Valentine’s Day. He’s knocked it out of the park every time. Most times, it’s a sweet popup card.
Sometimes, it’s a fabulous box of chocolates. The box is actually made of chocolate from the local outlet of Schakolad Chocolate Factory. The Belgium-style treats are incredible.
And other times, it’s the whole shebang – card, flowers, and a box of chocolates. I look forward to sharing these sweets with my sweetie.
However, there’s one more sweet reason to love this day. My youngest son was born on Valentine’s Day. That was an unforgettable day.
You’ve read my take on the holiday, now it’s your turn. What will you give to your Valentine?
My Paint & Shine Mysteries are set in the Daniel Boone National Forest. My parents were born, raised, and now rest in the Adams Family Cemetery in Wolfe County, Kentucky. The characters spend a lot of time preparing traditional southern meals and creating moonshine cocktails. Please consider buying local. Independent bookstores need your help during this challenging time.

I’m my own valentine and I’ve already given myself two long Toblerone chocolates as present:)
Oh my goodness, I LOVE those. My daughter-in-law does too, so it’s a treat we share.
I leave big reminders for anniversaries, otherwise, my husband would forget. Those are super sweet Valentine’s Day treats.
I leave reminders, but also a list of gifts for my birthday and our anniversary. It works reasonably well.
We often exchange cards. Too many people go out to eat on Valentine’s Day for us, so we dine at home…with a special dessert
We’re going to a new coastal Italian with great outdoor seating. That is if the temperature is above 60 degrees. It is supposed to warm up next week.
One of the casualties of the pandemic in our house was the giving of cards and other small gifts. This year, we’re going to have a special dinner (at home) and the last of the carrot cake we made for my birthday. It’s so good and worth the wait!
I love old fashioned valentines and I won’t turn down chocolate, but Valentine’s Day is pretty close to my birthday so I don’t worry too much about celebrating it beyond exchanging cards. Which reminds me….
I’ll be visiting my husband in the rehab center where he’s staying to recover from a bad fall. It’s a sad Valentine’s Day for us this year but I have many happy memories to sustain me. V-Day is when he proposed.
